Reactive oxygen species (Ros) free radicals can destroy phagocytes and other cells, tissues and biological macromolecules, and the acceleration of lipid peroxide can lead to the destruction and death of normal cells. Studies have shown that oxygen free radicals play an important role in atherosclerosis, thrombosis, myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, diabetes mellitus and hepatitis. Carcinogenesis, cancer promotion and cancer formation all have the production and participation of free radicals.

Alginate oligosaccharide can not only eliminate reactive oxygen species, but also significantly reduce the content of lipid peroxide, increase the activity of peroxide and SOD, and has the effect of scavenging too many free radicals and anti-lipid peroxide. Sun Liping et al studied the scavenging effects of alginate oligosaccharide A1, A2 and A3 on O2, OH and hypochlorite by chemiluminescence and E. coli methods. The results showed that alginate oligosaccharide A1, A2 and A3 had good scavenging effect, and the scavenging activity increased with the increase of sugar concentration, and the molecular weight also had a significant effect on the scavenging activity of alginate.




Alginate oligosaccharide can stimulate the differentiation, maturation and reproduction of various immunologically active cells (such as macrophages, T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, etc.), so that the immune system of the body can be restored and strengthened, and can play a variety of physiological activities through immunomodulatory effect. Yang Hua and others pointed out that the mannose oligosaccharide degraded by alginin has certain immunogenicity and can stimulate the immune response of the body, and it can bind to the surface of certain toxins, viruses and fungal cells and act as an adjuvant to these foreign antigens, slowing down the absorption of antigens and increasing the titer of antigens.

O tterlei et al reported that alginate and its degradation products could activate human monocytes to produce a large number of TNF- α, IL IL-6 and IL-1 β. It was found that M was the main motivating factor, and it was considered that the content of M was closely related to the effect of macrophages. TNF- α, IL IL-6 and IL-1 β are important immune factors, which play an important role in antitumor, antibacterial and antiviral. The alginate oligosaccharide extracted from kelp is an acidic oligosaccharide, which is the mitogen of mouse B lymphocytes. It can activate the proliferation of B cells, enhance the humoral immunity and phagocytosis of abdominal macrophages, promote the transformation of lymphocytes, and also promote the aggregation of rat red blood cells.
